Brain Boosters for Business - Introduction

April 29th, 2009

Are you lacking energy? Do you feel disorganized? Overwhelmed? Unclear about the next steps? Wondering how on earth your business will survive over the coming years?

Chances are your brain is struggling and is not performing to its best. That’s not great when your survival as a business owner rests on your sharpness, your clarity, your ability to inspire others, and your ability to make quick decisions in the face of change. An unhappy brain can’t do that very well.

We have not been kind to our brains of late here in the US. We’ve fed them with diets that clog our brain arteries as well as our pores. We deprive it of the oxygen and glucose it needs to function properly. We’ve stressed ourselves to the point of addiction to stress-reducing drugs, and we’re getting more and more stress-related ailments.

And an unhappy brain is going to reward us with cognitive decline. It begins with seemingly inane forgetfulness. We lose our keys, forget peoples’ names, struggle with decisions, lose focus easily. But it’s a long and slippery road that can and does frequently end in Alzheimers or dementia.

This is now our number one fear as a nation: losing our minds. Understandably so. The statistics are shocking. 5.2 million people in the US currently suffer from Alzheimers or dementia and with over 10 thousand baby boomers turning 60 each day,  that number is set to double over the next 5 years. One in 8 elders will be affected. And one in four households will (and are) in some way be involved with care giving. Will you be one of them?
Over the coming weeks I will be sharing some simple tools and processes that can help you take care of your brain/body/spirit connection so you can perform to your highest.
For now I’ll leave you with one thing… Are you breathing enough? The brain needs oxygen. Breathe deeply several times a day. Take yourself for a walk, or a run. Flush out the old, breathe in the new. Breathing more than symbolic. It’s nourishment. So let’s breathe life into our brain, our body. Our life.
