How to Apply the Optimists Creed to Become Successful

by Lisa T. Goodwin, CEO of Professional Network 4 Women

The prevailing opinion today of success and how to acquire it is based upon instruction that has been passed down through the centuries. Thousands of years ago, Buddha instructed his followers to use the controlling of their mind to attain happiness. Jesus taught that a pure mind would lead to a pure life. Several other ‘thought leaders’ have given us volumes of material on how to focus the mind to attain the life of our dreams. One such thought leader was Christian D. Larson. Larson penned several books on the power of thought.

The Optimists Creed was originally published in 1912 in the book Your Forces and How to Use Them. Since then, it has been used by many as a daily touch stone to help regain focus and set intentions. How to get the most out of the creed: Read it each morning before you start working. Pick one of the statements that resonates most with you that day and write it on a 3×5 card and carry it with you. Every 3 hours, review your 3×5 card. Before you go to sleep each night, read the entire creed again. Do this for 30 days and at the end of the 30 days reflect back on how your attention to positive thought has changed or influenced your work. Often, by using this technique, you will find that your relationships are stronger and people of influence are drawn to you. I have had several of my coaching clients say that doors opened for them where they thought no possibility of success were possible.

Our thoughts are the gateway to our happiness. There are many things that we cannot control, however, the one thing we can control is the most powerful thing in the universe.

“All that are is the result of what we have thought.” Buddha

Promise Yourself

~To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

~To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

~To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

~To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

~To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

~To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

~To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

~To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

~To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

~To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,

and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
