Sharing the first Chapter of my book!
For the first time going through the publishing process of my first book, I have a new found respect for anyone that has published a book!
My first book is called Embrace the BITCH Within. BITCH is an acronym for Being In Total Connection with Herself. The word bitch has negative connotations attached to it. But I'm changing that. Being who we really are and connecting to that "quiet powerful' within us, or what the Tao calls Yin Energy. Embracing who we really are and finding our true center.
I thought for my first blog I would include the first chapter of my book. It's given as a free preview on Balboa's website. Also, feel free to find me on Facebook.
Here you go, enjoy. I look forward to coming out with some great shows!
Meet the BITCH
I’m good at talking, just not about myself, so I’ll keep this short. Who am I? I am nobody. I’m YOU! I’m a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, friend and survivor. I’m sure there is a lot more I can add to that list. But really, all of those words are not who I am.
I have this section to tell you a little bit about myself and why I wrote this book. I’m the second oldest of eight kids. Yes, we all had the same mother and father. I grew up in Chicago, and in eighth grade we moved to the suburbs. Growing up taught me a lot of lessons about survival, such as, how to cook by the age of ten, how to do the laundry for a house full of people by the age of twelve, making a grocery list and taking the right amount of money with me and going to do the shopping at age twelve, and cooking an entire meal for ten people by age fourteen.
I left the house at age sixteen. Okay, I was kicked out. I dropped out of high school sophomore year, and I learned very quickly how to survive. It was at that age I realized it was my own choices that got me to where I was. I met a nice guy at the age of seventeen. After I met this nice guy, I started making better choices for myself. One of the first things I decided to do was to go back to school to complete my GED, and I accomplished that before my high school class even graduated. I got a full time job and started my own life. I married that nice guy at age eighteen. Well, actually it was ten days before my nineteenth birthday. We celebrated our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in June of 2010. He is still a nice guy, and I’m going to keep him.
I’ve told him,
“I don’t have to be married to you; I want to be married to you.”
That’s huge!
I became involved with a Christian organization at the age of twenty while pregnant with my first child. Being involved with this organization helped me with my study, speaking and people skills. I learned more about reading, writing, and giving presentations in front of an audience. It was a time for growing spiritually and emotionally for me.
I had my brilliant son at age twenty-one and then my beautiful daughter at age twenty-seven. I went to college and earned an Associate’s Degree as a Sign Language Interpreter at age twenty-nine. Wow! I’m starting to become somebody! I was very much involved with my church and working with the deaf and hard of hearing community. Busy, busy, busy! Meetings, kids, Board Meetings, school, Go, Go, Go!
“No time to eat kids! We’ll grab something on the way!”
Then I got cancer.
