What's Love Got To Do With It
When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the LORD.” 3 So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. Hosea 1:2-3
God came to Hosea and told him to marry a prostitute and have children with her. Can you imagine how Hosea must've felt? Here he was a man of God; a man with a reputation to uphold. What would the people think? Nonetheless he did just what God told him. He married Gomer who was not only herself a prostitue but so was her mother. Hosea and Gomer had three children two of whom were fathered by other men while Gomer was married to Hosea. Sounds like a soap opera right?
One day Hosea got fed up and decided he wanted to divorce Gomer. But that didn't stop her. She got dressed up and proceeded to go out on the town and do what she did best. Hosea's love however was so strong he just couldn't let her go. He decided he would try one more time to make a home with Gomer, letting her know he loved he no matter what she'd done. Hosea goes into town pays for Gomer with 15 pieces of silver and sure enough the light comes on and Gomer repents of her promiscuous ways and all is well.
So what's love got to do with it? Everything!. You see we as believers are much like Gomer prostituting ourselves for the things of this world. Conforming, bending, bowing down to the trinkets the world offers. We believe the lies of the enemy telling us that the promises of God aren't meant for us, or because of who we are or what we've done in the past God won't forgive us so we might as well just stay where we are. Just like Gomer we continue to wallow in our own poor choices receiving the same outcome over and over again. But just like Gomer there is hope for all of us if we choose the path God has laid out for us.
Yes, love has everything to do with it because it was love that hung on the cross to pay for our sins. He takes us just as we are. The least the last and the lost. Our past matters not to Him. He stands with arms wide open waiting for us to come to Him. Jesus came that we might have life and have it more abundantly.
People of God understand this day who you are in Christ! You have been predestined for greatness. You have value and worth. Take the opportunity to get to know God. Not just in the pardon of your sins but who He really is! God is love! Develop a personal relationship with Him. You'll never really know who you are or what your purpose truly is until you know who He is.
