Many of us spend our lives planning. It looks something like this; by the time I am twenty, I will have my Bachelors Degree. When I am twenty-five I will have my Masters and by thirty I will be married with my dream job and by the time I am forty my two kids preferably twins will be entering high school.  Whew! That’s a lot, did your plan look like that or something similar that fits your life? I know many people that had similar plans and when the plan did not happen according to their plan, they were dazed and confused. It left them asking the question perhaps they should have asked God before they began planning. Why am I here, what am I supposed to be doing?

This is really an age-old question; we are not the first generation of Women of Faith and certainly will not be the last to ask the question. I spent my own personal life planning, what I was going to do and be and a funny thing happened. I was interrupted and it was a marvelous interruption at that. You see, I was working my dream job; I was an international flight attendant. I have been on just about every continent, and I have seen and interacted with various cultures of people all over the world, and I loved it. The amazing thing was when I was in training I thought I would work as a flight attendant for five years and then I would do something else.  Flying was supposed to be a stepping-stone to my acting career. All through high school and college, I participated in the performing arts. If there was a play, I was in it. I even started a drama guild called Curtain Call while I was in college. So naturally, in my mind, I was on the way to Hollywood. The only question that I had was how do I get there. It was a long road and since the interruption, I learned that I was developing a career and if I wanted to experience true joy, the joy of the Lord. I needed to let the career go and answer my calling. The calling is a path or journey to joy unspeakable and when you have arrived you will proclaim, “I was born to do this.” My life is complete because I am living my true calling. You will never experience true joy until you are doing what you were created to do. It is what made Mo’Nique proclaim, “ I am on the ride of my life.”  I know what you are thinking, I want some of that, I want to do that, how do I make that real for me. Is it possible for me or have I missed my window of opportunity? I believe that it is never too late as long as you have breath in your mouth nothing can keep you from your God given purpose. The only thing keeping you from it is your mindset. Determine today and everyday from this day forward that you are open and available to receive your calling. The gift that God has given you and created you specifically to give back to the earth and no one can do it but you. The key word is surrender that means you must let go of developing your career and life. Is it ok to set goals, absolutely, when you surrender you give up your right to determine your future and you allow God to lead you to your destiny. One of the things that I found that I love to do is speak and teach. I absolutely love speaking and teaching for God. I had to surrender it, give it up. I was attempting to plan and develop my career and I realized I had to allow God to bring it to me. If you do not believe me, ask some people who believe that they are truly doing what God created them to do. Ask them how they got there? I guarantee you many of them will tell you that they walked into it, it just happened.  Many will say that they did not plan it nor did they go after it, it just happened. Some of them also stated it seems like they were always doing it. Prepare yourself the best way that you can just as Esther in the bible did, and when your day comes you will be able to walk into your destiny and say, “I just walked into it.”
