Wonderful Testimonial from an Event Director
When The WIN asked me to be the Global Women's Summit Event Director in the Netherlands and CEO Paula Fellingham told me about their vision of women helping women and families worldwide, there was no doubt in my mind that I would do this.
It has been an amazing and very rewarding journey. Meeting all these fabulous women while preparing the event and meeting with all the award winners was like a gift to me. My network of powerful women grew everyday, not just in the Netherlands but worldwide. The energy during the Summit was unstoppable so we all continued to meet together each month after the Summit. We continued to create more and more initiatives, more and more sharing, more co-creation, more creating the future together.
The vision of the Summit, focusing on Entrepreneurism, Enlightenment and Education was exactly what I needed in my own business. Read more ...

How to Help a Family Member with Dementia
If your mom is carrying a bag as heavy as sack of rocks and when you open it, there are things that she doesn't really usually use and then you'll ask her she could not tell you why she is carrying the content, she probably wouldn't even recognize it as her own. Then your mom suffers from dementia. She's all mixed up and she knows it. According to the Center for Disease Control, the numbers surrounding dementia are staggering. Worldwide, there are now an estimated 24 million people living with some form of dementia. If your mom keeps meticulous records, get the paperworks in order. As their forgetfulness grows, their deficiency diminishes. In order to establish personal management over finances, consult an advisor to review your mom's budget, assets, insurance policies and pension benefits. Consider establishing Power of Attorney as well as Medical PoA. If you need to register joint checking account in order to pay bills, begin the process now. Consolidate any outstanding debt or credit card balances into one payment plan. Keep an active list of all the medications and physician records in case of emergency. You will be pleased with yourself later should your parent get to a stage where you need to be in more control of matters. Summon up as much patience as possible and take the process in steps. It is remarkable that aside from the fact that modern medicine cannot find a cure, you will find your mom's resilience in the face of this cruel disease. She will try to laugh and get silly sometimes. Have your mother on medication in the form of a memory patch or contact a neurologist who will screen your mom. Sooner or later, we will all deal with parents and loved ones whose health and memories are failing them.

TEXAS LAW REQUIRES WOMEN TO VIEW SONOGRAMS
The Senate passed bills in 2007 and 2009 that included sonogram provisions, but those efforts failed in the House. With the governor's emergency designation, supporters think this might be their year. Sonograms are a required presentation of that image to women and the accompanying fetal description that chafes abortion rights advocates. According to the Guttmacher Institute, Texas is one of the seven states to require that women be informed of possible post-abortion negative psychological effects and one of 10 required to communicate that the fetus is potentially capable of feeling pain during the procedure. A Texas Senate committee will begin considering an anti-abortion measure that if passed, would be one of the strongest in the nation. The bill mandates that pregnant women be shown an ultrasound of the fetus at least two hours before an abortion. For women who know that that's the decision they need to make, to add these extra steps is just going to make it that much more emotionally challenging for them. Texas is also one of only six states that require doctors to inform women that an abortion may increase their risk of breast cancer, a link rebutted by multiple studies and research institutions including the National Cancer Institute. Physicians also would be required to explain the grainy image including a description of the fetus' dimensions and the presence of limbs or internal organs. At least 24 hours before the procedure, information on abortion's risks and alternatives must be provided to ensure that the procedure is conducted with a woman's “informed consent”. Supporters of the bill hope the extra steps persuade more women to give birth and reduce the number of abortions in Texas. Read more ...
