Success Starts With An Organized Desk
|
Did you know that January is national "Clean Out Your Desk Month?" January is the perfect time to prepare your desk for success in the New Year!
Before you start cleaning out your desk you need to determine what you want your desk to be and how it will serve you in 2010. Make a list of the purposes your desk will serve for you and your family. For some it is a fun place to sit and check email or update your status on Facebook. For others it is a place where you sit most of the day and work while throwing a little bit of fun in! And finally, some play games, do homework or even shop. You need to decide your purpose first.
Second, now that you know your purpose you need a plan. It will be very difficult for you to clean out your desk and organize it if you do not go at it with a plan! Your plan cannot just be walking to your desk and saying "here we go." Schedule your time on your calendar and come prepared. Eat well, have snacks, plenty of water , suppliesand no interruptions. Be sure others know you need time to organize your desk and ask them to honor that need by giving you quite time to do so. |
Home Business Office Organization
Creating an organized home business office can seem nearly overwhelming to many. A 2008 NAPO Survey of 400 consumers’ nationwide found that greater than 50% felt disorganized at work. As a trained and experienced professional organizer I have learned that by the time my business focused clients call me for organizing help, they have been frustrated for quite some time. Being disorganized eats up your time. Loss of valuable time equals lost money.
In the other corner...living organized means being able to find WHAT you need WHEN you need it.

- Home office area #1 - This is the immediate work area. It contains essential items arranged for easy retrieval. A calendar, telephone, pens, notepads, computer & printer are common home office items that are best kept no more than a few feet away from the desk chair.
- Home office area #2 - Items that get only occasional use could be placed several steps away from the main work area. If space allows, put these items on shelves and in filing cabinets around the exterior areas of the room.
- Home office area #3 -The 3rd area is for nonessential items. This area stores items used less often such as additional office supplies or old tax records.
Second: An efficiently organized home office should be zoned into ACTIVITY areas. Position your office equipment by frequency of use. The key is that logic plays into the home office organizing plan. Most offices include the following: Read more ...
