EATING WELL DURING CANCER TREATMENT AND BEYOND

Carolyn Lammersfeld, MS, RD, LDN, CNSD, national director of nutrition for Cancer Treatment Centers of America offers suggestions for improving your nutrition, even when time and energy are low or away from home:

  • When you do have the time and the energy to prepare food, cook large portions and freeze or refrigerate a few servings.

  • Look for nutritious recipes that freeze well like soups, stews or chili.

  • Prepare large quantities of whole grains like brown rice and immediately refrigerate them for use.

  • Look for alternatives to processed foods that are easy and quick to prepare.

  • If necessary, take small steps as you transition toward healthier eating.

  • Replace soda with water or low-fat milk.
