Welcome to "Stimulating and Encouraging Children's Reading", a show designed to explain the mysteries of learning to read, write, and spell while also exploring the subtleties of dyslexia. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that influences how a person develops and maintains reading, writing and spelling skills. Listeners will be presented with easy-to-use strategies to use with children to improve their skills and to increase their enjoyment. of reading.
in this show, we will discuss issues related to dyslexia that involve the writing process as well as creativity. Dyslexics have often been described as being visual thinkers: they experience the world in a very distinctive way. Many people have described this as a great gift.

In this show, we will discuss the issue of creativity and how this may occur in conjunction with the struggles of dealing with the mechanics of the writing process.  We will share a quote from the book, Eli: The Boy Who Hated To Write, by Eli Richards, published by www.retctrpress.com.  We will also explore quotes from Stephen Cannell and how his dyslexia affected his work. We end with one of my favorite quotes by Dr. Seuss, "I like nonsense.  It wakes up the brain cells."

Upcoming events sponsored by the Inland Empire Branch of the International Dyslexia Association include a free webinar series entitled, Exploring Literacy's Mysteries - offered on October 13th, December 1st, and January 8th.  For more information, visit our website at www.dyslexia-ca.org.

Our next episode will cover some of the strategies and techniques that parents and teachers can use to help stimulate and empower them with the process of written expression. Till then...........
