How to Recognize the Emotional Manipulators In Your Life

Today we’re going to resume talking about the various techniques and methods people use who want to manipulate you and control your life.
We’re discussing today powerful dependents who plead neediness, projectors who deny negative traits and project them onto you, triangulators who tell stories in order to turn others against you so they are all you have, blasters who carry on to avoid confrontation about something they are doing, intentional mis-interpreters who twist the facts to confuse you, the flirt who has to be the center of attention, and the iron fist bully who believes force is justified to get what they want.
We’re through with they types of manipulators, most being a combination of various types. We are moving on to manipulation in marriage, magical thinking, and cognitive distortions next week.
Here’s this week’s lesson to take away …if someone in your life is threatening you physically or verbally, if someone is projecting their personality traits onto you disclaiming them themselves, if someone is coming on as helpless dependent who insists on their way, there is a good chance you are being emotionally manipulated.
This week for homework start a journal and note every time one of the techniques we have discussed in the last two weeks has taken place in your life. Put the date by it so you notice how often it is done. You can listen to the show as often as you want to if you suspect you are being manipulated.
