Say Hello to Tony Montana Jr.!
‘Scarface’ Producer Talks Sequel

After years of speculation and wishful thinking, it seems that Scarface 2 is finally becoming a reality. So says Martin Bregman (above), the producer who masterminded the 1983 remake, starring Al Pacino, of the classic 1932 flick Scarface, starring Paul Muni.

Marty, who also produced such Pacino classics as Serpico and Dog Day Afternoon, confirms that a sequel is forthcoming. “Well, we’ve killed everybody else. So it’s gonna be tough,” he tells Film Festival Radio
host Janice Malone when she asks if there will ever be a Scarface 2. “You can’t have the Pacino character – pick him up from where he was shot and have him say, ‘You missed!’” Marty, 78, continues.

Later, when Janice says, “A lot of people who I know are diehard fans and they were hoping that maybe it would be the son or the grandson or something like that,” Marty comes clean, telling her, “No, it is the son. We’re working on that now.”

Marty, who says that The Godfather is among his three favorite films of all time, also reveals how he once made Universal Pictures an offer they couldn’t refuse – after the studio declined to cast Denzel Washington in The Bone Collector because “a black actor” could not “do any business” in the South.
