Poetry for Children

I did not read poetry as a child. My parents did not read it to us. I did not read it in my early and mid adult years. But I discovered children’s poetry and just love it. Or at least some of it! My favorites are the poems that play with words in a silly way and the ones that tell interesting stories such as the Owl and the Pussycat.

There is wealth of poetry for children. Try reading some poems with your kids. Start with the silly ones to get them interested.  Jack Prelutsky is a great choice. He was named the first Children's Poet Laureate by the Poetry Foundation in 2006; this poet is known for his wacky and inventive verse. He has numerous books, wonderfully illustrated.

One could also go to the library and ask any children’s librarian to help you find some good booksof poetry.

Who knows, your children could be so inspired, they will grow up to be a  poet themselves!

We make old family recipes for the holidays, we sing while we cook and we tell stories. These are all part of Christmas with our family. From the oldest to the youngest, we look forward to all the laugher, silliness and the cooking. Oh the cooking...we HAVE to make the Ravioli, the Zeppoli, the...
christmas, joy,santa, elves, attitude,audacious joy
On Christmas Night, my family along with my 83 year old mother watched the movie Elf.  I have probably seen it twice before. It is such a funny movie and yes some say predictable and sappy, but I still tear up when the crowd starts singing for Santa. Watching this time I simply thought YES...
