GWS - Kenya
I'm in love with the African women!! I wish you could've attended the Global Women's Summit in Kenya with me ~ it was beyond amazing! The women who attended are strong and courageous. They opened their hearts at the event and dialogued on a deep, meaningful level with one another. The speakers were superb - the singers were fabulous - the "spirit" in the room was electrifying. After the Summit women were weeping and hugging and saying they'd never experienced such a wonderful, life-changing event in their lives.
Some of the women rode on buses all through the night to be there. Many of them traveled 5 hours or more to attend. These are precious women!!
The next day I met with women from the Kibera slums - in their tiny little homes. There are 1.2 million people living in ONE square mile of filth and squalor and garbage. Thirty families use each open-pit toilet. The stench was putrid but their hearts are strong and their yearning to improve their lives pulls on my heart strings. After we left the slums I cried... it broke my heart and I resolved to help them.
Today I spoke at the G10 meeting in Kenya. This group is comprised of the Directors of the 10 leading women's organizations in Kenya. It was a wonderful meeting and I thoroughly enjoyed discussing how The WIN will collaborate with all their organizations.
Tomorrow morning I'm off to Bangalore to prepare for Saturday's Global Women's Summit there. I'm excited to meet the marvelous women in India!
