Momentum is what keeps things moving once they are in motion. The trick is to get the movement happening in the first place. A new business is starting from the beginning to develop that movement. That is not to say that a new business is starting from zero. It simple means that some things have to happen to create momentum.
Why is momentum important in marketing? The answer is easy. Getting up to speed to be able to coast for a while lets you focus, for instance, on other things to grow your business,. It means that your marketing system can carry the messages for you without you having to do the all work of marketing live and in person to attract every single client.
In order to develop momentum in your marketing, a number of critical elements need to be addressed. The first one on your mind may be finding just the right company name. That's a great place to start.
Choose a company name that you believe will support your entire offering of products and services. Print out the name of your company on your printer. Does it look right? Does it feel right? Does it sound right? If you were to put up a sign with this name on it, would it attract clients?
Here is a check list of things to include when just starting to build your marketing momentum:
- Company name (Who am I? What do I represent?) This is the most critical starting point. Careful thought here may help you to avoid wanting to do a company name change a year ot two down the road. If you are having trouble settling on a name, perhaps you are not yet clear about what is the purpose of the company you are creating.
- Company colors (What colors resonate with you?) Your company colors should attract the customers and clients that you are seeking. You will have to choose between a match to the industry to which you are attaching or a glaring difference.
- Tag line or slogan supporting your uniqueness. What is the 5-second phrase that I could use to support my business? What could I say briefly to help people remember me?
Everything on marketing flows from your business identtity. Once you have created your business identity - by deliberate design, you are on your way.
