I love to read romance novels, not so much those that pass the old highly erotic writing (Little Birds by Anais Nin?) and reaches into what I consider new no-holds-barred, nothing-is-off-limits erotica (but that's just my personal opinion) but the honest-to-goodness romance novels of old. They are like those old classic films that I love so much, you know the kind I mean, waves crashing against the shore in the evening--sun rise in the morning. Oh, we know what took place don't we? Especially if the couple is smiling and cooing at one another. Now that's what makes me deep sigh, not explicit language.
There are some that fight to stay out of the romance genre but still are. Debbie Macomber is one author that I love, I especially enjoy the titles that are street addresses, even though it took me forever to understand the sequence of the Cedar Grove series. I like these books as much as I like her Blossom Street series, I must confess, it was the book covers that got me hooked at the start. These covers are so pretty the look like they are done in water colors. The list is long, but all I have to see is "a part of the Cedar Grove/Blossom Street series and the book goes into my 'to buy' basket.
I also love J. D. Robb's "In Death" series, by now, everyone knows that J.D. Robb is Nora Roberts alter-go. Under this name her heroine is Lieutenant Eve Dallas, you know, 'kick a$$ now, ask questions later,' Eve. Eve who is married to "mostly" reformed ex-crook billionaire Roarke. Roarke has given Eve more than money, he literally gave her a real life. Now if that is not love and romance I don't know what is. Did I mention Roarke, who only has a first name, (Oprah, Barbra, Beyonce are also known by their first names only, however they do have last names, but remember this is fiction so Roarke can get a way with that) has looks and sex drive/ability that fall into the "Oh, my word!!" zone.
I make no apology for loving these books, they help me get away for brief periods of time for short mind-relaxing trips. A cup of tea or a glass of wine, an hour or so and I bounce back refreshed to take on the world or at least get the next task done.
Quote: I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naïve or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman. Anaïs Nin
