They say that only two things in life are certain: death and taxes. I would like to suggest that there is at least one more. That would be that at the end of the day, people are going to come home hungry. Regardless of what they’ve eaten earlier in the week or day, what they’ve been doing during the day, or what you might have planned for your evening, they’re going to want to eat.
I am a person who eats to live, rather than one who lives to eat. A simple meal of a bowl of soup and grilled cheese sandwich fits the bill just fine for me. However, everybody else in my home doesn’t feel the same way. They’re ok with that occasionally—but I like to provide them with the variety and nutrition that keeps everyone happy. And, I believe mealtime is so important that I am willing to put more effort into the dinner fare.
Because life is busy, I have found that the only way for me to have the kind of meals for my family that I would like to have is to plan and prepare. Without the planning and preparation, mealtime can become a miserable, stressful 5 pm what’s-for-dinner chaos. That is not what I want for myself OR my family.
