Welcome to "Ask Auntie Artichoke" online audio and video shows. The honorary title of “Auntie” is given in many cultures to the wise women who guide and mentor others in life. “Aunties and Uncles” are sources of encouragement, support and unconditional love.

Why The Artichoke?

The symbol of the artichoke has great meaning in my teaching and writing. As I work with families, I frequently find only the outer edges are exposed and can be prickly, hard to open and sometimes bitter. They are closed to new ideas or methods. Many families prefer the known over the unknown, even when the old patterns and skills are not serving them well.

But, as you expose the artichoke and people to warmth, caring, and time, gradually the leaves begin to open and expose the real treasure—the heart.

My training is as a parent educator, family coach, and personal historian. I have written more than 20 books, hundreds of articles and am blessed to have had opportunities to speak internationally on family issues, including care giving. I am a life-long learner and connector. My favorite volunteer activity is writing end-of-life stories for Hospice.

I finally understood that I was my own worst enemy and I had created so many negative situations in my life (either directly or indirectly) because of it. My new way of showing up in the world has led me to a place of peace everyday. It feels so amazing, I can't wait to share it with the world. Welcome! My name is Kristen Brown. I am a Spiritual Life Coach and Empowerment Facilitator.

As far back as childhood, I have been fascinated with human beings. I love all people of the world and view us all as connected to one another sharing the same Source. I found myself continually cheering people on and helping them to realize who they really were inside. I recall as a little girl wanting others to see how special and unique they were. I was so very passionate about wanting people to be happy, confident, and released from pain. But in the process I didn’t see that I was forgetting about the most important person… ME.

As I traveled through my journey I discovered that there were repeating patterns in my life. I was 41 when my husband randomly abandoned the family two months after my giving up my 20 year hair clientele to be a stay-at-home mom. I was incomeless, alone, had a doozy of a mortgage and three kids to get through this. I would literally have been homeless if not for my loving parents. The year that followed was beyond words. Not only did I need to find income, pack and move and navigate an ugly divorce with no contact with my ex, I had three innocent children looking at me for guidance and protection. Their hearts just as hurt as mine.

As difficult as that year was, I am humbly grateful… The growth, healing and enlightenment that followed was worth more than anything. The lessons I have learned were hard and strong. They were in my face. I squinted and squirmed at them, but eventually I accepted them into my life and my life did a complete turnaround. I now see things differently, I am a more peaceful person and most importantly, I LEARNED TO LOVE AND NURTURE MYSELF.

Being my background was one of loving fellow man and wanting to empower, support and love I only found it poetically perfect for me to bring my lessons public and share my knowledge and tools with the world. I became a certified Life Coach and never felt more at home.

I feel honored everyday to be called up to be the vessel of light for all who are ready and willing to call into their lives maximum joy and purpose. Sometimes all we need is for someone to help us filter through the mind noise and get into contact with our inner knowing. We can then choose correctly where we would like to be and how to get there.

I honorably look forward to holding space for you and assisting you on your path of greatness! Seek and you shall find.
