Soap a Soap!

Episode Number:
018
With:
Anne-Louise Sterry

Aunt Lena tells this very old story in her own inimitable style. This story has been around for many years and Aunt Lena says she was inspired to retell it after she heard Bill Harley’s version. Any child or parent listening will immediately relate to either frustration of caring for a very active and wonderful child, or the equal frustration felt by that same enthusiastic and adventurous child who wants to do all the things he possibly can and earn more of his Mothers respect, but does not understand her practical caution. It seems a pity that few parents today would risk letting their child wander off into the city streets on their own. So you can get some idea of how old this story really is! Both Anne-Louise and Aunt Lena tell this story in performances, and in fact Anne-Louise has at least two versions of it, and several other stories featuring ‘Anthony, the Italian Boy’. In all of them Anthony learns a lesson and his long suffering Mother sharpens parenting skills she will need to use again.
