String Stories: The Monkey and The Crocodile

Episode Number:
005
With:
Anne-Louise Sterry

String figures are used all around the world by people of every culture. It is a wonderful way to tell stories. Adding string figures to the narration catches the eye of children and adults alike. For visual learners it provides a focus and for audio learners an additional dimension. Most local libraries have books that can teach you the art of string figures.

I can tell you that learning to create string figures is an excellent exercise for the mind at any age, but children seem to pick it up rapidly. For we grown ups it may be a slower process but equally rewarding. It's fun, creative and challenging.

So get some string, get the book from the library and string your self along! Send us pictures of your own figures and the stories that you tell.
